Social Enterprise Initiative: Social Impact Leadership Series

How is NASCAR Driving Green Innovation?

Join the Social Enterprise Initiative (SEI) for a Social Impact Leadership Series event: Driving Green Innovation at NASCAR with Chicago Booth alumni Mike Lynch and Eric Nyquist. Lynch and Nyquist will discuss the "greening" of NASCAR and why environmental sustainability initiatives make sense for the historic brand.

Since the 2008 establishment of NASCAR Green, the car-racing authority has grown the largest recycling and environmental sustainability program among all US sports, earning the respect of green sector leaders and the attention of its loyal fans.

As senior vice president of strategic development at NASCAR, Eric Nyquist sees green programs as a unique opportunity to connect with consumers who are increasingly attuned to social impact. "The more relevant our form of racing is, the cars themselves, the entertainment, the better we have done as a sport," Nyquist said in a Minneapolis Star Tribune story.

Michael Lynch, vice president of green innovation at NASCAR, noted in a Chicago Booth Magazine story, "[NASCAR Green] has as much to do with influencing the aspirations of our massive fan base as it has to do with the actual initiatives and the environmental impact reduction that we've accomplished."
