People as Real Options - with Professor Michael Gibbs

Firms innovate by investing in uncertain projects, taking chances on new ideas, and sorting through them to find those with the highest upside-potential. In this talk, Professor Gibbs outlines how the same logic can apply to employees. Firms can structure hiring, jobs, decision making and incentives to improve the upside potential from investing in their people. These techniques are used by firms that want to emphasize creativity.

Professor Gibbs will also describe how you can view yourself as a “real option.” This has implications for how you approach a job interview and your career plans – and whether a Chicago Booth Executive MBA may be a good investment in yourself.
